Health and Safety

The Big Cat Sanctuary welcomes you and we hope that you have an enjoyable visit.

Please do take a moment to read this document and acknowledge your understanding of our health and safety regulations, which are in place to provide a safe environment for our staff, volunteers, visitors, and animals.

• Listen to and respect any instructions given by our staff at all times.
• Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking areas.
• Please do not consume alcohol prior to your arrival on site.
• If you require First Aid at any time, please let a member of staff know or head to reception– we have first aid kits located across the site and numerous qualified First Aiders who will be at hand to assist.
• The ground off the main path may be uneven, please be aware of this if you take alternative routes.
• Please ensure that any children are always supervised.
• Please do not climb any fences or gates or enter any unauthorized areas.
• No direct contact with any animal is permitted.
• You must only enter areas within the outer safety enclosure when accompanied by a member of staff.
• Please be aware that Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by a microscopic parasite (toxoplasma gondii) sometimes found in cats. Due to the risk Toxoplasmosis presents to unborn babies, especially during the first three months of pregnancy, women in the early stages of pregnancy should avoid contact with any faecal material which may be present in the enclosures.

If you are with one of our tour guides:

• Please always stay aware of the position of our animals within their enclosures; do not lean on the mesh, put your fingers through or on the mesh fencing and do not wear any items of clothing that could be grabbed and pulled (claws and paws can reach through the mesh fencing so please stay vigilant)
• If participating in an experience if the meat drops allow it to fall – under no circumstances, try to catch it. If the meat falls in the standoff area your guide will retrieve it. If it falls in the enclosure it belongs to the animal and no attempt must be made to retrieve it.
• Full concentration is vital when hand feeding: Please focus on the animal you are feeding and watch the animal as you feed; do not turn to face a camera or look at anyone accompanying you on your Experience.
• Please ensure that gates are closed behind you.
